Silicone for creative DIY projects
Discover the fascinating world of silicone for your creative projects. Mould unique pendants or decorative objects. Create personalised candle holders or vases, soaps or concrete. Create reusable moulds for plaster and epoxy resins. There are virtually no limits to your creativity.
Food-safe vs. non-food-safe silicone
If you want to make moulds for food with the casting silicone, only use food-safe silicone. It is free from harmful substances and is perfect for ice cream, chocolate or baking moulds. Non-food-safe silicone, on the other hand, is ideal for decorative objects such as candle holders, soaps, concrete or jewellery.
Silicones from soft to hard
How hard or soft a silicone is is determined by its Shore hardness. The higher the value, the harder the end product. Silicones can generally be categorised into the following Shore hardnesses:
- Shore A 00-10: Extremely soft, e.g. well suited for objects with strong undercuts
- Shore A 10-30: Flexible, ideal for plaster, wax, synthetic resins and other materials
- Shore A 30-60: Medium hardness, perfect for concrete moulds
- Shore A 60+: Hard, suitable for very stable moulds and prototypes
Temperature resistance
Silicones are true all-rounders when it comes to temperature.Depending on the type, they are cold-resistant up to 60°C and heat-resistant up to 250°C.These properties make silicone perfect for the production of ice cube moulds and baking tins, where extreme temperatures are reached.
Processing and curing
The silicones we offer consist of the two components A and B. Mix these according to the product instructions. Make sure that you mix the silicone as bubble-free as possible. The optimum processing temperature is 20 to 25 °C.The curing times of the silicones vary depending on the type. There are fast-curing silicones with a curing time of 15 to 60 minutes and silicones that take 4 to 24 hours to harden. Choose the right silicone for you based on your requirements and your project.
We hope you enjoy designing and realising your own projects. By the way, if you don't want to make your own silicone moulds, we will also be happy to create a custom silicone mould for you.
